M6 brings 4K and AR to Euro 2016

Three of the eleven football matches M6 will broadcast during this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France will be shot in 4K and delivered to Orange fibre subscribers.

RTL Group’ s French channel, which promises a “high tech and connected Euro”, will also introduce other technological and digital innovations to its football dedicated programming, including augmented reality (AR) sequences that give the impression animators are “teleported” from one set to another. To enhance the interactivity between M6 shows and fans on social networks, the channel will also use the Vigiglobe solution that analyses in real time what is trending on Twitter or Facebook to fuel debates on screen.

All live and replay contents related to the competition will also be available on free of charge digital platform 6Play, which now claims 8 million subscribers.

M6 shares the Euro 2016 FTA rights with TF1 (pay-TV rights are held by beIN Sports), and for the first time of its sporting history will broadcast the final match. Its ambassador to the competition will be former football player David Ginola, previously a commentator on Canal+.

“We need to bring great events to viewers, and for this reason M6 will bid for football in future” CEO Nicolas de Tavernost told a press conference.
